How organisations can support mental health in the workplace

The Diversity Practitioners Association is excited to host Naomi Armitage from Humanology, and Nic Kelly from Anglo American to share their experiences with supporting mental health in the workplace.

While the taboos are starting to be shed from mental health conversations, there is work to do to move from acceptance to genuine inclusion at work. In this discussion we will explore mental health as an invisible disability at work, and the role we can all play as inclusion practitioners and advocates in fostering an environment of belonging at work.

Naomi Armitage, Psychologist, Humanology

To date, interventions to improve mental health in the workplace has largely focused on individual strategies. The recent release of the ISO 45003 Standard for Managing Psychological Health and Safety at Work will focus efforts on organisational interventions to address these risks. Psychological Safety is a key component of successful organisational interventions with research indicating a direct relationship between team Psychological Safety and individual mental health.

Nic Kelly, Safety Coordinator and Mental Health Ambassador, Anglo American

Nic had long suffered in silence with his struggles with mental health and depression. It was a battle that cost him everything and on many occasions, he almost took his own life. Nic now uses his experience to educate and help others, in the hope that something he has learned along the way may just help someone else.

Join this DPA event via Zoom on Tuesday 31 August, 2:30 - 3:30pm to hear about Nic's lived experience, and Naomi's perspectives as a practitioner, and how to put this information into practice in your workplace.
